Get to Know Jim
I grew up in a small town in northwest Indiana and came to Grand Rapids to attend Calvin College. Pat Treizenberg and I were married while students at Calvin and I graduated with majors in Philosophy and Elementary Education. I have worked in education, technology and non-profit administration for most of my adult life. Outside of work, I’ve been involved with numerous community organizations (listed below) as a volunteer or part-time employee.
Pat and I have lived in our Heritage Hill neighborhood for 46 years and raised our three children there – Emily (Michael) Schmidt, Evan (Hope) Talen and Elliot Talen. They and our three grandchildren all live in the Grand Rapids area.
I am privileged to have been able to serve several terms as a Kent County Commissioner, most recently until 2020.
My broad involvement and engagement in our community are more than just talk. And it’s what will enable me to get things done for residents of the new 16th Kent County Commission district.
